Prague, “the city of a hundred spires,” boasts so many wonderful buildings and cafes that it seemed impossible to visit them all. Behind me rise the spires of Prague’s oldest clock tower, an astronomical clock that was built in the 15th century.

The clock tower is surrounded by historic buildings. The Astronomical Clock in Prague’s Old Town Square is called The Orloj. It features an astronomical dial, representing the position of the Sun and Moon, a clockwork hourly show of figures meant to represent the Bible’s Apostles which actually move, and a calendar with medallions representing the months. For a clock that was built in 1410 it’s incredibly sophisticated.
