Heroes’ Square in Hungary was built to commemorate the occasion of Hungary’s 1000th birthday in 1896.

The square features statues depicting the leaders of the seven tribes that founded Hungary in the 9th century. These leaders founded the Magyar nation over a thousand years ago.

St. Stephen’s Basilica was named in honor of Stephen, the first King of Hungary who reigned from 975 to 1038 AD. His mummified fist is kept in the reliquary.
