Hungary

Heroes’ Square in Hungary was built to commemorate the occasion of Hungary’s 1000th birthday in 1896.

The square features statues depicting the leaders of the seven tribes that founded Hungary in the 9th century. These leaders founded the Magyar nation over a thousand years ago.

St. Stephen’s Basilica was named in honor of Stephen, the first King of Hungary who reigned from 975 to 1038 AD. His mummified fist is kept in the reliquary.

The Basilica overlooks Budapest and is neoclassical in style. It’s interior is laid out like a Greek cross. |

of the roof.

The dome of St. Stephen’s Cathedral is the same
height as the dome of the Parliament and both are Budapest’s tallest buildings.
