In 1863, architect Charles Garnier designed a casino overlooking the Mediterranean Sea.

The casino is known for its Bohemian glass chandeliers, rococo ceilings, and columned gold-and-marble atrium that segues into the legendary opera house.

The official language of the country is French, although a number of people speak Monegasque, a mixture of French and Italian.

Monaco is renown for its beautiful cathedral, built in 1875, its palace in the medieval style, and an oceanography museum established in 1910 by Prince Albert I.
